Are you shipping features when nobody knows you exist?

On this page

I talk to AI founders every week who built something genuinely good.

And almost every single one has the same problem.

They can explain their product in detail. They can demo it in detail. They still ship new features every week.

But when I ask how someone goes from “never heard of you” to “paying customer,” the answer gets vague.

“Word of mouth, mostly.”
“Some LinkedIn.”
“A few referrals.”

That’s not a funnel. That’s hope.

The gap nobody schedules time to fix

The product is real. The demand engine doesn’t exist.

And the reason it doesn’t exist isn’t laziness. It’s that building the product is the part you’re good at, and it always feels productive.

Shipping a feature gives you something to point at by Friday. Building a path from attention to booked call gives you nothing to point at for weeks.

So the product keeps getting better and the gap between what you built and who knows about it keeps widening.

Quietly. Until the month the referrals stop.

Why “post more” is the wrong prescription

The advice you’ll get is to show up more. Post more often, be more visible, get your name out there.

That advice isn’t wrong exactly. It’s just answering a question you didn’t ask.

Visibility gets you reach. Reach is not customers.

I’ve watched founders triple their posting volume and change nothing about their pipeline, because the extra attention had nowhere to go. No next step. No way to capture interest before it faded. Nothing between “I liked that post” and “let’s book a call.”

You can pour more water into a pipe that isn’t connected at the other end. It doesn’t make you wetter.

What the gap actually looks like

When I map a funnel for an AI-first company, the shape is nearly always the same:

  • The top is busy. Content, some outreach, maybe ads. Effort is going in.
  • The bottom is fine. The founder is good on calls. Demos land. When someone books, they often close.
  • The middle is empty. There is no path from the first category to the third.

That’s the gap. Not a content problem, not a product problem, not a closing problem.

It’s an absence of connective tissue, and it’s invisible on a dashboard because nothing is failing. Things just aren’t happening.

What closes it

Three things, in this order, and none of them require you to post more.

A clear next step after every piece of content. Not “DM me if interested.” Something specific someone can do in ten seconds while they still care.

A way to capture interest before it fades. Attention has a half-life of about a day. If the only way to stay in touch with you is remembering your name next month, you’ve lost.

A reason to keep hearing from you that isn’t a pitch. Nobody signs a high-ticket B2B deal off one touchpoint. Trust gets banked over time, and you need a channel to bank it in.

That’s it. That’s the middle.

The uncomfortable part

None of this is exciting to build. There’s no launch, no announcement, no moment where it feels finished.

It’s the least satisfying work in your whole business and it’s the reason two companies with equally good products end up with wildly different customer counts.

The best AI product loses to the best-distributed one. Every time.

Founders don’t need to post more. They need a path from attention to booked call that actually works.

If you want the version of this with the plays in order rather than the diagnosis, I wrote up the exact seven moves I run on every client. You can grab it here.
